
Brian Moore (5180)Brian is a native Californian, born and raised in Tulare County. He attended Chico State College (now California State
University,
Chico) and graduated with a Degree in Civil Engineering. While in college, Brian served as Vice President of the
Student Engineering Association and President of the Eta Psi Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega Service
Fraternity. Being an active member of both
organizations, Brian became acquainted with a variety of service projects.
Brian’s wife, Jo Ann, is also a native Californian, being born in
Watsonville. Jo Ann is a member
of Alpha Nu, a local chapter of the national women’s non-collegic service sorority, Epsilon Sigma
Alpha. She is a Past President of the chapter and has
served in many capacities of the Board. Jo Ann is a
Certified Public Accountant and serves as the Controller for Collet Construction Co, Inc based in Woodland, CA. They were married in Chico where both have many long time friends.
They established residence in Sacramento, CA. Brian and Jo Ann have a daughter, Lindsay, who is a
senior at San Francisco
State University
and majoring in interior design. Lindsay is active in
marshal arts and has achieved for first belt in Taekwondo.
A Rotarian since 1995, Brian is a Charter member of the Rotary Club of Natomas. Both he and JoAnn are Paul Harris Fellows. Brian is also a Paul
Harris Sustaining Member and a Benefactor. His past
positions in his club include Secretary, Bulletin Editor, Rotary Foundation Rep, and President. At the District level, he has served as District
Conference Chair, a Governor’s Rep, GSE
Team Leader, chief registrar for Success Through Rotary Seminars (STRS), RYE Host family and on the Membership and GSE committees. Rotary International’s
GSE
newsletter has quoted him as stating “The GSE
Program is Rotary’s best kept secret”. In 2011, Brian will serve as the General Chair on the
Far West PETS Committee responsible for training over 530
president elects from 9 rotary districts. Brian has also
assisted in the annual preparation of the District Memorial Service for deceased Rotarians and has
continued to serve both the District and Zone Institute in such capacity for four of the past five
years.
His family hosted Dasha Korokina, the first Russian student ever to visit District 5180. She stayed with Brian’s family for most of her time in
the states and became the “second daughter” in the family.
Although it has been nearly nine years since she was in the U.S., Dasha still exchanges emails with Dad Brian, Mom Jo Ann and Sister
Lindsay. Dasha has since graduated from the
University of Irkursk
with a degree in economics and is employed by the government.
Brian has several interests outside of work. He enjoys
growing camellias; rebuilding classic autos and wine tasting.
The last interest is particularly unique in that he judges wine at commercial and home wine
competitions. He is a Past President of the Sacramento
Home Winemakers Club. He has been a wine judge for
nearly 20 years and is one of 225 California State Certified Wine Judges.
He has been nicknamed “the District 5180’s Wine Guy” and
enjoys assisting people in developing their own wine appreciation.
