Arden-Arcade

"The Golden Anniversary Club"

Paul Harris founded Rotary in the city of Chicago in 1905.  In 1908, the idea of a Rotary Club extended across the nation to club #2 in San Francisco, California along with club #3 in Oakland, California.  A few years later, these two clubs sponsored a Sacramento Club, who in turn, as the community grew, became the sponsor of a club in North Sacramento.

At the Del Paso Country Club, on the evening of February 23, 1955, exactly 50 years from the evening when Paul Harris called the first meeting of Rotary, the "Golden Anniversary Club" of Arden-Arcade was chartered.  Ray McClure, a Past President of our sponsoring club, North Sacramento, accepted the charter as founding President on behalf of his 22 new member club.

As the membership multiplied in a few short years, this new club established itself as a prominent force in the community.  Although our meeting places have changed, we continue to enjoy the fellowship of a number of members making up from other clubs each week.

Pride of membership in Arden-Arcade is very evident in new members as they become fully aware of their club's many activities and top standing in District 5180.  Our youth projects, other benevolent functions and International Service, consistently maintained by the members over the years, has routinely won the attention and thanks of the Sacramento Community and Rotary International.

Dr. Jim Reece remains as our only active charter member still on our roster.
